Ektron Code Exchange Community

Ektron Exchange is a community for Ektron web site developers that allows web developers to upload and share thier code with others in the community. The exchange also provides Ektron Best Practices from Ektron's CFG (Code Factory Group) for creating and posting code samples.

  • Getting Started

    Welcome to the Ektron Exchange! Ektron is committed to maintaining a strong and vibrant community for its users. The Exchange – a “one-stop shop” for developers – offers a variety of community benefits and features, including the latest news, “Best Practice” advice from Ektron experts, pre-built code, server controls, widgets and more. The Exchange is the largest library of free-ware code for the Ektron Platform.

  • Registration

    You can use your current username and password if you already have an Ektron DevCenter account.  Otherwise, please use the “Register” link to fill out a brief registration form. Once you have registered, you will have access to download code on the Exchange, as well as upload and share your own code samples.

    How to Find Code

    There are many ways to locate the specific code you’re looking for.  You can browse through all code on the Find Code page. Code can be organized in either “list” or “grid” views using the buttons on the right. You can use the “Search” field to find a piece of code using search keywords (and limit the results to specific categories if desired).  Or you can display the “Most Popular,” “Highest Rated,” or “Recently Added” code by using the drop-down menu. You can also use the Top Authors page to discover code from community code contributors.

    Your Profile

    Your profile page includes a status field, which you can use to update followers on your activities. You can edit or add to the profile information you originally entered when registering on the Exchange by using the “Edit Profile” link under your avatar icon in the left column.

    Social Profiles - Displays Twitter, Facebook, and other social network usernames.

    Network Connections - Links to your Ektron Exchange network, including people you have designated as colleagues, pending colleague requests and so on.

    My Groups - Links to groups groups you’ve joined, “Most Popular” groups and so on.

    Bookmarks - Links to pages you’ve bookmarked on the Exchange.

    Download History Tab - Displays a list of all files you have downloaded.

    Code Contributions Tab - Displays a list of all code you’ve uploaded.

    My Reviews - Displays a list of all reviews you’ve made.

    How to Upload Code

    Uploading code is easy. You first must be a registered Ektron Exchange member. Click on the “Upload Code” button and fill out the following fields:

    Code Title: This is a required field. Please give your file a useful name that will help other developers find it (for example, “Twitter Widget” rather than “Widget 11x”).

    Code Type: Required. Use the drop-down menu to classify your code.

    Short description: While not required filling in the short description is strongly recommended, as it will be used in the search results description.

    Long description: Required. Again, please be as detailed as possible in your description to help other developers understand the features of your code.

    Tags: Use this field to apply descriptive tags for your code, separated by commas, such as “Twitter,” “widget” and so on.

    Website URL: Use this field to include your site’s URL in the code’s download page.

    CMS Built On: Required. Use the dropdown menu to select the version of the Ektron platform.

    Code Version Number: Required. Enter the current version of your code.Information about this version: Relevant version information, bug fixes, etc.

    Upload a screen shot: If desired you can include a screenshot of your code.

    Upload an icon: If desired you can include an icon representing your code.

    YouTube tutorial video: if you have a tutorial video describing your code, enter the YouTube URL in this field.

    Upload Code: Code must be a .Zip archive file. Use the “Browse” button to locate the file on your system. Review the “Terms & Conditions’ and if you accept them, click the check box. Click on the button to upload.

    All code must be reviewed and approved by Ektron before it will be included in the Exchange. Reviews can take up to [length of time]. Ektron reserves the right to reject or remove any code in the Exchange without prior notification.How Your Code Will Appear in the Exchange

    Your Code will have its own page in the Exchange, displaying its screen shot and/or icon (if uploaded), its description, and other content you entered during the upload process. Community members have the ability to rate and comment upon each piece of code, ratings which will be reflected in the “Most Popular” and “Highest Rated” categories. This page will also display relevant information about the code author, including links to other code you may have uploaded and your profile.
